Sohar Dual Carriageway Project Set To Begin Soon

MUSCAT: The upcoming dual carriageway project in Sohar is designed to significantly improve traffic connectivity, stretching from the Al Wahat Mall roundabout to the bridge linking the Al Batinah Expressway. Spanning approximately 9 kilometres, the project is scheduled for completion within 18 months, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing regional transport infrastructure. Authorities have emphasized that the project will play a crucial role in accommodating the growing traffic demands of both residents and commercial vehicles in the area.

The construction plan includes multiple roundabouts aimed at optimizing traffic flow and reducing congestion, particularly during peak hours. Additionally, strategically placed box culverts will manage water runoff during rainfall, preventing flooding and maintaining uninterrupted road usage. These engineering measures are expected to mitigate common traffic bottlenecks and enhance overall safety for motorists traveling along this busy corridor.

Lighting infrastructure is another critical component, with light poles to be installed along the entire stretch. The illumination will not only improve visibility at night but also contribute to the reduction of accidents, ensuring a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians alike. Officials highlighted that the combination of structural enhancements and safety features is integral to achieving long-term efficiency and reliability on this roadway.

Local authorities and project planners have coordinated closely to align construction activities with minimal disruption to current traffic. Plans include phased construction schedules and temporary diversions to maintain traffic movement while the roadworks progress. Once completed, the dual carriageway will serve as a vital link in Oman’s transport network, supporting economic activities, commuter convenience, and regional development objectives.
