MUSCAT: The fourth edition of the School Beach Games Championship concluded today at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Compound for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, marking the end of an exciting series of competitions. The event featured two major sports: beach handball and beach volleyball, attracting significant participation from students across various regions. Held on the sandy courts of the renowned compound, the championship highlighted the importance of promoting sports and recreational activities among young students in Oman. This initiative aligns with the national strategy to enhance physical education and foster teamwork, resilience, and healthy lifestyles among school communities.
More than 150 individuals were involved in making the championship a success, including students, teachers, supervisors, referees, organizers, and media representatives. Participants represented nine educational directorates from across the Sultanate, creating a vibrant and competitive environment. The diversity of participants demonstrated the growing interest in beach sports as a key component of youth activities in Oman. Such large-scale engagement not only encourages sporting excellence but also strengthens inter-school relationships, cultural exchange, and community building among the youth.
In the beach handball competition, the Muscat Educational Directorate team emerged as champions after a strong display of skill and determination. The South A’Sharqiyah Educational Directorate team secured second place, followed closely by the A’Dakhiliyah Educational Directorate team in third position. These results underline the competitive spirit and talent spread across different regions, with each team demonstrating exceptional performance despite challenging conditions on the sandy courts. The event also provided a platform for coaches and supervisors to identify promising athletes who could potentially represent Oman in future national and international tournaments.
Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, the South A’Sharqiyah Educational Directorate team claimed the top position, showcasing impressive teamwork and strategy throughout the matches. The North Al Batinah Educational Directorate team finished in second place, while Muscat’s team secured third position. At the closing ceremony, Faisal Ali Al Nahdi, Assistant Director General of the Directorate General of Culture, Sports, and Youth in Dhofar Governorate, honored the winning teams and appreciated the efforts of all contributors, including organizing committees and supporting entities. The championship’s successful conclusion reflects Oman’s growing commitment to youth sports development and its vision to create more platforms for young talents to thrive in diverse athletic disciplines.
