Dhofar Khareef Season Records Rise In Visitor Numbers

MUSCAT: The Dhofar Khareef season witnessed a notable increase in visitor turnout between June 21 and July 31, 2025, reaching 442,100 visitors. This figure represents a 7 percent rise compared to the same period in 2024, when 413,122 visitors were recorded. The growth highlights the sustained popularity of the monsoon season in southern Oman, driven by its unique climate, scenic landscapes, and cultural attractions that continue to draw both domestic and international tourists. This positive trend reflects ongoing efforts to promote the season as a premier destination for nature-based tourism within the Gulf region.

Authorities attribute the rise in visitor numbers to a combination of factors, including enhanced infrastructure, improved accommodation options, and targeted promotional campaigns that emphasize Dhofar’s natural beauty and rich heritage. Events and activities designed to showcase local traditions, coupled with better accessibility through road and air travel, have further boosted the season’s appeal. Strategic collaborations between public and private sectors have also contributed to enhancing the overall visitor experience, ensuring that the region remains competitive in attracting tourists despite global economic uncertainties.

The growth in arrivals underscores the importance of Dhofar’s Khareef season to Oman’s broader tourism strategy under Vision 2040, which aims to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on hydrocarbons. Seasonal tourism not only generates significant revenue but also creates employment opportunities for local communities, fostering inclusive development across the governorate. As tourism demand continues to rise, there is an increasing focus on sustainable practices to preserve Dhofar’s pristine environment while accommodating greater visitor numbers in a responsible manner.

Looking ahead, stakeholders are expected to build on this momentum by introducing new tourism offerings and improving supporting services to enhance visitor satisfaction. Plans include expanding cultural festivals, developing eco-friendly resorts, and integrating digital solutions for seamless bookings and information access. These initiatives are aligned with Oman’s long-term vision to position itself as a leading destination for experiential tourism, ensuring that the Khareef season remains a key driver of economic growth and cultural exchange for years to come.
