MUSCAT: The Omani Journalists Association (OJA) strongly condemned the ongoing targeting of journalists, stating that these attacks have brought the total number of journalists killed since the beginning of the aggression to 242. The Association described these killings as a deliberate attempt to silence the voice of truth and conceal the atrocities committed by the occupation. According to the statement, such actions are not isolated incidents but form part of a systematic strategy to suppress media coverage of the humanitarian crisis unfolding on the ground.
In its formal statement, the OJA categorically classified these acts as war crimes, emphasizing that they represent a clear violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the safety of journalists in conflict zones. The Association highlighted the urgent need for international accountability, stressing that the continued impunity for such crimes will only encourage further violations. The statement warned that failure to hold perpetrators responsible undermines the very foundations of global justice and human rights principles.
The Omani Journalists Association called on the international community, as well as media and human rights organizations, to break their silence and take immediate and concrete action to end these violations. It urged the global media fraternity to unite in defending press freedom and to advocate for mechanisms that ensure full protection for journalists. The OJA underlined that journalists play a crucial role in uncovering the truth, and any threat to their safety directly endangers the right of the public to access unbiased information.
Concluding its statement, the OJA reaffirmed its solidarity with Palestinian journalists and their families, extending heartfelt condolences to the victims’ loved ones and the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate. It praised the resilience of journalists who continue to fulfill their humanitarian and professional duties despite grave risks. The Association asserted that the occupation’s attempts to hide its crimes will fail in the face of unwavering dedication to truth, noting that all honorable media professionals and free voices worldwide stand with Palestinian journalists in their struggle for justice and accountability.
