Muscat Stock Exchange Index Rises On Renewed Investor Confidence

MUSCAT: The Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) index recorded a positive performance in today’s session, rising from its previous close of 4,809.44 points, signaling a boost in investor sentiment. The increase suggests that market participants are regaining confidence following recent volatility, with a number of key sectors contributing to the upward movement. This improvement in the index aligns with broader optimism seen across regional bourses, where strategic announcements and earnings expectations are influencing market behavior.

Despite the rise in the index, the total trading value experienced a decline, falling 10.4% to RO 25.27 million compared to RO 28.21 million in the previous session. Analysts interpret this divergence as a reflection of cautious yet selective participation by investors, where positive momentum exists but is not yet matched by broad-based trading activity. The decrease in trading value highlights the presence of measured buying, possibly driven by targeted institutional moves rather than retail volume.

Market capitalization also witnessed growth, increasing by 0.438% to reach approximately RO 29.40 billion. This upward shift in market value indicates that investors are recognizing the underlying strength in listed companies and are willing to reposition portfolios accordingly. The steady expansion in market cap also reflects the broader appeal of the Omani market in light of ongoing economic diversification and structural reforms that continue to strengthen long-term fundamentals.

Foreign investor activity contributed notably to the session, with non-Omani purchases totaling RO 1.437 million, or 5.68% of all trades. Meanwhile, non-Omani sales amounted to RO 581,000, or 2.30%, resulting in a net foreign inflow of RO 856,000. This foreign participation reinforces confidence in Oman’s capital market among global investors and suggests growing interest in its stable macroeconomic environment and progressive policy direction.
