MUSCAT: The Ministry of Labour has announced that 12,936 employment and replacement positions were secured for Omani citizens during the first half of this year, representing 38% of its annual target. These opportunities were spread across both the public and private sectors, reflecting ongoing national efforts to enhance domestic workforce participation. Within this total, 2,316 jobs were generated by the public sector, while the private sector accounted for 10,620 positions, underscoring the significant role of private companies in supporting government employment initiatives.
In addition to direct employment, the Ministry reported the creation of 4,292 training opportunities, achieving a 39% completion rate toward its yearly objective. Of these, 473 were within the public sector and 3,819 in the private sector. These training programmes are designed to equip jobseekers with the necessary skills and competencies to meet evolving market demands, thereby improving their prospects of sustainable employment. The focus on vocational development is in line with broader economic diversification strategies under Oman Vision 2040.
Combined, the Ministry confirmed that a total of 17,228 employment and training opportunities were created in the first half of the year, resulting in an overall achievement rate of 38.28%. Officials noted that these figures reflect steady progress in meeting labour market needs despite global economic challenges. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to continuing efforts in job creation, skills development, and supporting private sector engagement to ensure both quantitative and qualitative gains in national workforce outcomes.
Furthermore, the Ministry highlighted that the total number of employment opportunities, including those designated for individuals previously in the workforce, reached 35,807 during the review period. This aggregated figure comprises 17,228 new job opportunities and 18,579 positions for previously employed individuals. Authorities emphasized that these accomplishments demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing policies and programmes aimed at enhancing employment opportunities for Omanis, reinforcing the Ministry’s role in driving job market stability and economic resilience.
