CAA Reports Extremely High Temperatures Across Oman

MUSCAT: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued its latest weather bulletin, highlighting dangerously high temperatures recorded in several parts of the Sultanate within the last 24 hours. According to the report, multiple regions, particularly in the interior and desert zones, experienced extreme heat conditions, with some areas reaching temperatures above 49°C. These heat levels are significantly above the seasonal average and have prompted cautionary advisories to the public, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those working outdoors.

Among the hottest locations were provinces in Al Dakhliyah, Al Dhahirah, and parts of Al Wusta, where the mercury surged past 47°C to 49°C. The CAA noted that dry winds, high solar radiation, and weak sea breezes contributed to the excessive heating. Coastal areas fared slightly better but still recorded unusually high humidity levels, making the overall weather feel even more oppressive. These conditions are consistent with global patterns of intensified heatwaves attributed to ongoing climate change.

In response to the extreme heat, the CAA has urged citizens and residents to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor physical activities, particularly between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The authority has also coordinated with relevant emergency and health services to ensure preparedness in case of heat-related medical incidents. Public awareness campaigns are ongoing to educate communities on heat safety and how to recognize symptoms of heat exhaustion or stroke.

The report also included updated forecasts, warning that the high-temperature trend may continue for the coming days, with slight fluctuations depending on regional conditions. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation and will issue timely updates should any weather alerts become necessary. The CAA emphasized the importance of staying informed through official channels and adhering to safety guidelines to minimize risks during this period of extreme weather.
