Heatwave Warning Issued For Coastal Areas Of Oman

MUSCAT: The Meteorology Department has issued an urgent weather forecast warning ahead of a significant rise in temperatures expected across the Sultanate on Wednesday, July 30. According to the department’s latest update, this surge in heat will particularly affect the coastal governorates along the Sea of Oman. These regions are likely to experience higher-than-normal temperatures due to atmospheric and seasonal conditions.

Officials have urged residents and outdoor workers to take precautions during peak heat hours, especially in areas such as Muscat, South Al Batinah, and North Al Sharqiyah. Temperatures in some of these regions may surpass the seasonal average by several degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses and affecting daily activities.

The meteorological data points to a temporary atmospheric ridge that is intensifying dry and warm air masses along the coastal strip. Such weather events are not uncommon during this period, but this particular instance is expected to be more intense than usual. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide real-time updates if conditions worsen or expand to other governorates inland.

Citizens and residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight between 11 AM and 4 PM, and check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and young children. Employers are also encouraged to accommodate safety guidelines for workers in outdoor environments. The warning remains in effect for at least 24 hours pending further assessments.
