Oman Welcomes UK PM’s Pledge On Palestine Recognition

MUSCAT: Oman has warmly welcomed the recent declaration by United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer to formally recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. The announcement was met with strong approval from Omani officials, who view this step as a significant advancement in international efforts to support Palestinian rights and self-determination. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman reiterated the Sultanate’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and expressed hope that more global actors would follow the UK’s lead.

The Sultanate emphasized that recognizing Palestine is a critical component of achieving a just and lasting peace in the region. Oman has consistently advocated for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state. This latest development by the UK government aligns with the long-standing diplomatic principles upheld by Oman and reflects growing international momentum toward addressing decades of occupation and conflict in the Palestinian territories.

In diplomatic communications following the UK’s announcement, Omani representatives highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation and UN resolutions in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They stressed that such recognitions must be part of a broader framework that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and ensures their access to land, resources, and sovereignty. Oman reaffirmed its position that meaningful dialogue and adherence to international law remain essential to peace-building in the region.

Oman also praised Prime Minister Starmer’s commitment to justice and humanitarian values in his foreign policy vision. The Sultanate hopes that this recognition will inspire renewed efforts within the international community to hold serious negotiations and implement tangible measures in favor of Palestinian statehood. Oman pledged to continue supporting regional and global initiatives that promote peace, security, and mutual respect among all nations in the Middle East.
