Consumer Gets RO 4,070 Back After CPA Intervention

MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Suwaiq Wilayat has successfully facilitated the recovery of RO 4,070 for a consumer who had purchased a vehicle through a social media platform. The case came to light when the buyer discovered that the vehicle did not meet the specifications agreed upon at the time of purchase. Upon lodging a formal complaint, the CPA initiated an investigation into the matter, seeking clarity on the terms of sale and the nature of the discrepancies.

The seller was contacted by CPA representatives and asked to present documentation proving that the vehicle met the promised standards. However, after comparing the listed features and the actual condition of the vehicle, the authority confirmed that the consumer’s claims were valid. This breach of consumer trust and clear case of misinformation prompted the CPA to press the seller for a resolution, in line with national consumer protection laws.

Following negotiations, the seller agreed to refund the amount of RO 4,070 to the buyer. The refund not only represents a financial victory for the affected individual but also underscores the CPA’s commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring fair trade practices across all channels, including digital marketplaces which often fall into regulatory grey areas.

The CPA reiterated its warning to consumers to be cautious when purchasing high-value items through social media or unofficial channels. It encouraged buyers to request complete documentation and validation before finalizing any deals. At the same time, the authority reaffirmed its active role in monitoring the market and taking strict action against any party found violating consumer protection laws.
