Passenger Traffic Rises Slightly At Oman Airports

MUSCAT: Oman Airports has reported a modest yet notable 2 percent rise in passenger traffic for June 2025, with figures surpassing 1.13 million travelers. This increase, while relatively small, is seen as a positive indicator of steady recovery and growing momentum in the country’s aviation sector. Compared to the same month in 2024, the uptick reflects sustained regional and international demand for Oman’s air connectivity.

The total number includes passengers across both Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport, with Muscat continuing to handle the lion’s share of travelers. Airport officials attributed the increase to a combination of factors, including the introduction of new flight routes, enhanced terminal facilities, and a stronger push in tourism promotion efforts led by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. These developments have collectively improved the passenger experience and operational efficiency.

Industry experts have noted that despite global economic fluctuations and regional tensions, Oman has managed to maintain a steady flow of air traffic. This is due in part to the country’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination, along with its increasing relevance as a regional transit hub. Airlines operating in Oman have also increased capacity and frequency on popular routes, especially to destinations in South Asia and the GCC.

Looking forward, Oman Airports has expressed optimism about the rest of 2025, as the nation continues to diversify its economic offerings and strengthen travel infrastructure. Investments in digital systems, passenger services, and sustainability practices are expected to contribute to even greater growth. Authorities are also exploring further partnerships with airlines and tourism stakeholders to capitalize on the momentum and achieve long-term aviation goals.
