MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion has launched an innovative mobile laboratory service in Oman, aimed at ensuring the highest standards of fuel quality and compliance across the country. The initiative, which begins in Muscat, Dhofar, and North Al Batinah, is designed to improve consumer trust in fuel services and ensure rapid response times when it comes to fuel quality concerns. These mobile labs are equipped with state-of-the-art devices capable of testing different types of fuel, including 91, 95, and 98 octanes, to ensure that they meet local and international standards.
Imad bin Khamis Al-Shikaili, Director General of Standards and Metrology, highlighted the significance of the mobile laboratory service, calling it the first of its kind in Oman and the second in the entire GCC region. The mobile units will play a critical role in monitoring fuel quality and preventing issues related to non-compliance by fuel stations. By implementing stringent regulations and specifications for station owners, the initiative will help avoid penalties and fines associated with non-compliance, ensuring that only high-quality fuel is provided to consumers.
The mobile labs will be deployed in various governorates across Oman, initially covering key areas such as Muscat, Dhofar, and North Al Batinah. There are plans for expansion to other regions of the country to meet growing demand and ensure consistency in fuel standards. Additionally, these mobile labs will be used during high-traffic seasons like Salalah’s autumn season, and will also address complaints from areas that might not be initially covered by the service. This initiative reflects Oman’s commitment to enhancing service quality and protecting consumers from substandard fuel.
The Ministry aims to make this service affordable for station owners by keeping inspection fees minimal. The initiative not only helps station owners meet international standards but also ensures that consumers receive the best possible service. With a focus on compliance, quality control, and consumer satisfaction, Oman’s mobile laboratory service is set to become a key player in maintaining fuel quality and enhancing the overall reliability of the country’s fuel services.
