MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested an individual involved in defrauding several citizens by posting false commercial advertisements on social media platforms. The man created misleading ads that promised products and services which were never delivered, deceiving people into making payments. The scam targeted many victims, leaving them without the items they had paid for, prompting widespread concern among social media users.
The ROP launched an investigation after receiving multiple complaints from the public about the fraudulent ads. Through the investigation, it was discovered that the individual was using different social media accounts to spread the fake ads, which were designed to appear legitimate and trustworthy. Once payments were made by the victims, the fraudster would cease all communication, leaving them with no recourse.
The police emphasized the importance of verifying online advertisements before making financial transactions. They warned the public to be cautious when purchasing goods or services from unfamiliar sources, especially through unverified social media accounts. ROP also encouraged individuals to report any suspicious online activities promptly to avoid further victimization.
This arrest serves as a reminder to the public of the increasing number of cybercrimes and scams taking place online. The ROP is committed to safeguarding citizens from digital fraud and will continue to monitor online platforms for any signs of criminal activity. The police have assured the public that they are dedicated to ensuring that those who engage in fraudulent acts will face legal consequences.
