Oman Launches Initiative to Create 885 Job Opportunities

MUSCAT: Oman has launched a major initiative aimed at creating 885 job opportunities for its citizens across two phases. The initiative targets an ambitious 84% Omanisation rate for permanent contracts, focusing on developing the local workforce. This step is part of Oman’s broader strategy to empower its national workforce and reduce dependence on foreign labour. The agreement, which was signed by key officials including His Excellency Sayyid Salim bin Musallam Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Development, reflects the country’s commitment to tackling unemployment and providing sustainable careers for its citizens.

The initiative will provide targeted training and hands-on experience to job seekers, focusing particularly on the water services sector. In the second phase, 406 positions will be filled within the sector, offering an opportunity for those who complete the training program to secure long-term employment. The program will ensure that job seekers not only have access to employment opportunities but also the necessary skills to thrive in the modern workforce. This emphasis on practical training aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, particularly in high-demand sectors.

One of the main objectives of this initiative is to evaluate job seekers’ skills and match them with the available positions that align with market needs. This ensures that Oman’s workforce is better equipped to meet the challenges of an evolving economy. Additionally, specialized training programs will be developed to prepare candidates for roles in the water sector, which is a vital industry for the country’s future development. The program’s success will play a significant role in achieving Oman’s vision for 2040, which includes increasing the number of Omani citizens in skilled and technical jobs.

The partnership between the Ministry of Labour, Nama Water Services, and the Authority for Public Services Regulation is seen as a strategic collaboration aimed at creating a more sustainable labour market in Oman. By providing opportunities in a crucial industry like water services, the initiative not only supports national employment goals but also strengthens the country’s infrastructure. The program’s long-term impact is expected to be significant in terms of both job creation and the enhancement of local skillsets in the water sector, contributing to Oman’s ongoing development.
