MUSCAT: The Amerigo Vespucci, the historic sailing ship and Training Ship of the Italian Navy, will arrive in Muscat on 8 January as part of its World Tour’s 32nd stage. This marks the first visit of the ship to the Omani capital.
For over ninety years, the Amerigo Vespucci has been a symbol of Italy’s naval and seafaring heritage. It is known worldwide and represents Italy’s maritime traditions. The “Vespucci World Tour,” supported by Italy’s Minister of Defense, Hon. Guido Crosetto, serves both as a training platform for Officer Cadets and as a means of promoting Italian excellence in various fields.
The Vespucci has long been an emblem of Italy’s Navy and the nation itself. During its journey, it has contributed to the growth of Italy’s prestige globally. The ship embarked on its round-the-world journey on 1 July 2023, which will last approximately two years. Along the way, it showcases Italy’s culture, history, science, innovation, and technological advancements.
Upon its arrival in Muscat, the ship will dock at berth no. 34 at Port Sultan Qaboos at 09:00 on 8 January 2025. The event will be marked by a welcome ceremony led by H.E. Pierluigi D’Elia, the Italian Ambassador to Oman, Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of the Italian Navy, and various local Government and Military officials.
The Amerigo Vespucci’s visit to Muscat represents a strengthening of the cultural and diplomatic ties between Italy and Oman. It is an opportunity to further explore potential areas of collaboration, particularly in the maritime, defense, and cultural sectors.
