Coast Guard Foils Major Smuggling Attempt in Dhofar

DHOFAR: The Coast Guard Police, in collaboration with the Dhofar Governorate Police, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of illegal drugs and 65,000 packs of banned cigarettes. The operation, which took place in the coastal waters of Dhofar, was part of ongoing efforts by Omani authorities to curb the smuggling of illicit goods into the country. The interception involved a coordinated effort between land and maritime security forces to prevent the illegal goods from entering Oman.

The authorities discovered that the drugs, which included various types of narcotics, were being transported by sea. The smugglers attempted to unload the shipment onto land using a boat, but the Coast Guard had already set up surveillance in the area. The operation was carried out with precision, ensuring that both the drugs and the large quantity of illegal cigarettes were confiscated before they could be distributed.

The drugs and cigarettes, which are banned in Oman due to their harmful impact on public health and security, were confiscated, and the smugglers were arrested. This successful operation is a testament to the ongoing commitment of the Royal Oman Police and other security forces to maintain the safety and security of Oman’s borders. The authorities have vowed to continue their efforts to combat organized crime, including drug trafficking and the illegal trade of banned products.

Oman has been strengthening its border security measures and increasing surveillance in areas prone to smuggling activities. The efforts aim to protect the country from the harmful effects of illegal substances, reduce the availability of banned products, and ensure the safety of the local population. This operation serves as a clear message to potential smugglers that Omani authorities remain vigilant and will take swift action against any illegal activities.
