Ministry of Transport, Communications Measures Digital Economy’s GDP Contribution

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) in Oman is launching a nationwide survey aimed at gauging the influence of the digital economy on the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the year 2023. This significant initiative is a part of the government’s broader efforts to assess the role of technology and digital infrastructure in shaping Oman’s economic performance.

The survey will collect data across various sectors, focusing on how advancements in digital technology, including e-commerce, telecommunications, and digital services, have contributed to the economy. By examining these factors, MTCIT aims to gain insights into the current state of the digital economy and its potential for future growth.

Key areas of focus include the increase in digital transactions, the rise of fintech solutions, and the integration of digital tools in traditional sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing. Through this survey, the ministry hopes to highlight the economic opportunities created by digital transformation and the importance of fostering a robust digital ecosystem.

This initiative reflects Oman’s commitment to enhancing its digital economy and aligning with global trends of innovation and technology-driven growth. The findings from this survey are expected to inform policy decisions, support investments in digital infrastructure, and contribute to the overall economic diversification goals of the Sultanate.
