DUBAI: UAE continued their flawless performance in the second edition of the Gulf Cup T20, securing a 24-run victory over defending champions Oman at the ICC Academy ground in Dubai. After setting a competitive total of 157/7, the UAE bowlers held their ground and restricted Oman to just 133/8, marking their second consecutive win. With this victory, UAE moved to the top of the points table.
UAE’s innings were built on solid contributions from Tanish Suri (40) and captain Muhammad Waseem (48). Their 79-run partnership provided a strong foundation, though UAE faced a late collapse in the final overs. Despite the best efforts of Oman’s bowlers, particularly Samay Shrivastav (3/29) and Sufyan Mehmood (2/35), UAE managed to post a competitive target of 158.
Oman’s chase never gained momentum as wickets fell consistently. Jatinder Singh (26) and Aamir Kaleem (23) were the top scorers for Oman, but the required run rate steadily climbed. The middle order failed to build partnerships, and Oman was unable to recover after the loss of key players. As the pressure mounted, the batting crumbled, with Oman ending at 133/8.
UAE’s bowlers Junaid Siddique (2/24), Ali Naseer (2/23), and Muhammad Jawadullah (2/25) were instrumental in the win. Oman’s resistance came mainly from Mohammed Nadeem, who remained unbeaten on 22, but his efforts couldn’t prevent the loss. Waseem’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award, and UAE continues to show dominance in the tournament.
