Authorities Arrest Two for Possessing Devices Simulating Bird Sounds

WILAYAT: The Environment Authority in Muscat has announced the arrest of two individuals, an Omani national and a Gulf citizen, for violating wildlife protection laws. The authorities caught the suspects at a site in the Wilayat of Madha, located in Buraimi Governorate. The arrest was made after the suspects were found in possession of illegal devices designed to simulate bird sounds. These devices are prohibited by the Environment Authority due to their use in wild hunting activities that disrupt the natural balance of wildlife.

The illegal devices are a violation of Resolution No. 13/2021, which strictly forbids the use and possession of tools that simulate the sounds of birds and animals. This resolution was enacted to prevent illegal hunting practices that target wildlife, especially birds, using these artificial sounds to lure and capture them. The Environment Authority emphasized that such practices pose a serious threat to biodiversity, particularly bird species that rely on natural habitats for survival.

Following the arrest, the Environment Authority took immediate legal action against the perpetrators. The agency is committed to ensuring that violators face appropriate legal consequences for their actions, which harm both the environment and wildlife. The legal measures taken are part of a broader effort to enforce regulations that safeguard Oman’s natural heritage and prevent the exploitation of animals for hunting or commercial purposes.

The Environment Authority has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to wildlife exploitation. Authorities are taking steps to educate citizens about the importance of preserving Oman’s wildlife and the legal framework in place to protect it. With the ongoing enforcement of wildlife protection laws, Oman aims to continue its efforts in maintaining a healthy and sustainable ecosystem for future generations.
