Oman and Belarus Strengthen Economic and Cultural Cooperation

MUSCAT: Oman and Belarus are working to deepen their ties across economic, political, and cultural fields. The visit of President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Oman and his meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik highlights both nations’ commitment to expanding partnerships. These discussions emphasize boosting cooperation in trade, investment, and strategic sectors, showcasing the importance of this relationship in addressing regional and global challenges.

Recent visits between officials from both nations reflect their joint determination to strengthen bilateral relations. Roman Golovchenko, Prime Minister of Belarus, visited Oman last October, engaging with Omani officials and business leaders to explore economic opportunities. Similarly, Alexei Bogdanov, Belarus’s Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, participated in a business forum during his visit last August. These engagements resulted in the signing of key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance collaboration in trade, investment, and other critical areas.

Ambassador Hamoud Salim Al Tuwaih of Oman underscored the visit’s significance, pointing to its potential to expand economic cooperation. This includes increasing trade volumes and fostering investment in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, heavy industries, and advanced technology. Both countries have also signed agreements to avoid double taxation, protect investments, and promote mutual trade, which provide a robust foundation for their economic relationship.

Cultural and academic exchanges have also been pivotal in fostering mutual understanding. Initiatives like the Belarusian Cultural Week in Muscat and Oman Day in Belarus demonstrate the countries’ dedication to promoting their rich heritage. These efforts, alongside agreements on cultural exhibitions and academic collaborations, further solidify the growing relationship between Oman and Belarus, which has steadily evolved since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992.
