NEW DELHI: Air India has rolled out in-flight Wi-Fi services, making it the first airline in India to offer this connectivity. Starting January 1, 2025, passengers on select aircraft including the Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and some Airbus A321neo, will have access to internet services during domestic and international flights. This new feature aims to enhance the travel experience, enabling travelers to stay connected with family, work, and social media while in the air.
The service allows travelers to browse the internet, send texts, check emails, and stay active on social media platforms without interruptions. Passengers can access the Wi-Fi on devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops with iOS or Android operating systems. Air India’s move into providing Wi-Fi connectivity is seen as a response to the increasing demand for seamless communication and productivity tools during flights, catering to both business and leisure travelers.
Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India, highlighted that the new Wi-Fi service reflects modern travel trends, where connectivity is not only about convenience but also productivity. He emphasized that whether for work or leisure, passengers will now have the option to connect with the outside world, enhancing their overall travel experience. Wi-Fi service is available once the aircraft reaches above 10,000 feet, with the capability to connect multiple devices at the same time.
Initially, Wi-Fi services were introduced on Air India’s international flights, operating on Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and Airbus A321neo aircraft, including routes to major cities like New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. The service will continue to roll out progressively across the rest of the fleet. In addition, Air India has made significant investments in its fleet, placing an order for 100 more Airbus aircraft, including A350s and A321neos, as part of its ongoing expansion plans.
