18 Workers Arrested For Labor Law Violations In Al Dakhiliyah

MUSCAT: The Municipality of Interior, in cooperation with the joint inspection team from the General Directorate of Labor, conducted a significant operation in Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, targeting illegal street vendors. This operation was initiated due to the rising concerns over violations of the labor laws, particularly by expat workers who were found engaging in street vending activities without proper permits or documentation. The inspection is part of a broader government effort to ensure compliance with labor regulations and to protect the rights of both workers and employers in Oman.

As a result of the operation, 18 workers were arrested for violating labor laws. These workers were engaged in street vending, which is not allowed without the necessary permits. The arrest of these workers underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing labor regulations and maintaining order in the market, especially in areas where illegal activities can disrupt local businesses. The authorities also confiscated the food items that were being sold by these vendors, further emphasizing the seriousness of the offense.

The operation was carried out as part of a collaborative effort between various government agencies, including the Ministry of Manpower and the Municipality of Interior. This joint initiative is seen as a step towards improving the overall enforcement of labor laws and ensuring that all workers, whether local or expatriate, adhere to the rules. It also reflects the government’s commitment to controlling illegal activities that affect public health, safety, and the local economy. Such campaigns are increasingly important in maintaining the integrity of Oman’s labor market and protecting both workers and consumers.

Moving forward, officials have stressed the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation between government bodies to address such violations. Employers and employees are urged to familiarize themselves with the country’s labor laws and ensure that they operate within the legal framework. The government has also called on the public to report any illegal street vending or other labor law violations to help maintain a fair and lawful working environment for everyone in the country.
